After first lady's moving farewell speech, Ed Rendell calls for 'Michelle in 2020!'

Michelle Obama delivered her farewell White House speech on Friday and her moving remarks drew widespread praise, in particular from Ed Rendell, the former governor of Pennsylvania, who tweeted, "We'll miss POTUS who did great but WOW we'll really miss Michelle! What a farewell speech- so moving and poignant. 'Michelle in 2020!'"

As she has done in the past, the first lady talked a lot about hope in her speech, saying, in part, "When you are struggling and you start thinking about giving up, I want you to remember something that my husband and I have talked about since we first started this journey nearly a decade ago...Something that has carried us through every moment in this White House and every moment of our lives and that is the power of hope."

She added, "The belief that something is always possible if you're willing to work for it and fight for it."

In regards to her running in 2020, despite a social media campaign by her supporters, those close to the first lady have uniformly expressed that she is not interested.

In a November interview, Rolling Stone's Jann Wenner asked President Obama about his wife possibly entering politics; Obama responded by saying, "Michelle will never run for office. She is as talented a person as I know. You can see the incredible resonance she has with the American people. But I joke that she's too sensible to want to be in politics."

David Axelrod, Obama's chief campaign strategist during both his presidential runs, also echoed that sentiment in October when he said about the first lady running for office, "I would bet everything that I own against that prospect."
