Company offers doomsday bunkers for the mega rich

It seems that every couple years or so, an apocalypse rumor circulates the Internet and terrifies many. One company is making it possible so the wealthy can be safe if such a horrific event occurs.

The Daily Star reported that Vivos Group, a company based in California, maintains a bunker community in South Dakota. Their shelters can hold 5,000 people and withstand a 500,000-pound bomb explosion.

Security in a nuclear fallout, however, doesn't come cheap. A 99-year lease costs $25,000 deposit up front and $1,000 a year. The shelters are sold without water and are completely empty; Vivos Group would customize the shelter for a price between $12,000 and $20,000.

Vivos claims it is "life assurance in a dangerous world."

"People are sensing that a global life-changing event is just ahead. Millions of people believe that we are living in the 'end times'," the website says. "Why is nobody telling you to prepare," they ask. "What is your plan? Will your family be victims or survivors?"

According to Vivos, they offer the answer to these questions. "Vivos is a privately funded venture, with no religious affiliations, building a global network of underground shelters, to accommodate thousands of people," the website notes.

Vivos urges those to look into co-owning a shelter "while there is still space available."
