Trapped warehouse fire victim sent bone-chilling text in final moments

An Oakland, California, warehouse erupted into flames during a concert on Friday night, tragically claiming the lives of at least 36 people.

Most of those who perished were between the ages of 20 and 30.

In the days following the deadly blaze at the venue, 'Ghost Ship', victims' families have begun sharing the heartbreaking final text messages their loved ones sent them before they died.

The mother of one woman who died in the blaze said she woke up on Saturday morning to a gutting message from her daughter on her phone, reported KTLA.

"I'm going to die, mom," the bone-chilling text read.

Sgt. Ray Kelly, a spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, told the San Fransisco Chronicle on Monday that another victim had texted a similar message to a family member.

"I'm going to die," it read, followed by "I love you."

Kelly told The Associated Press that rescue crews found the bodies of victims huddled together, as if they were trying to protect each other.

The Oakland Police Department is currently coordinating with the city and the fire department to investigate the history of the building and to figure out the fire's origin.
