One in 5 people admit to snooping on their spouse's spending

If you're feeling guilty for snooping on your spouse's credit card spending, maybe you shouldn't feel that bad. As it turns out, many people are as curious as you.

CreditCards.com conducted a survey in which they asked credit card holders if they ever check the spending of an authorized user or a joint account holder.

With about 2,000 people polled, the results showed that roughly 20 percent checked their spouse's credit card statements.

Furthermore, if you're a Republican, chances are you are more likely to snoop.

The study -- which considered age, income level and political affiliation -- showed that Republicans are nearly twice as likely to spy on spending as Democrats.

However, the snooping didn't really reflect a lack of trust for many.

An analyst for the site told NBC News that the poll also revealed that 1 in 5 people who shared an account said they feel closer to the other person because they share an account with them.
