Wintry weather may cause slippery travel in northeastern US leading up to Thanksgiving

Areas of light snow and ice could cause travel disruptions across the interior northeastern United States on Wednesday night into Thursday.
While a significant snow or ice storm is not expected, enough wintry precipitation may fall to cause disruptions from Pennsylvania to New England by Thanksgiving.

A storm delivering snow, ice and rain to the central U.S. on Tuesday will reach the Northeast late on Wednesday into Thursday.
Enough cold air will hold firm near the ground to allow for areas of freezing drizzle, sleet and snow at the onset of the storm.
The wintry weather will expand from northern Pennsylvania and New York on Wednesday night, into parts of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire on Thursday.

"Those making a last minute trip early Thanksgiving morning may need to prepare for some slippery travel," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.

Snow and ice accumulations will remain minimal through the storm. Snowfall will range between a coating to 3 inches, with ice accumulations expected to remain below a 10th of an inch.
"Although the actual amount of frozen precipitation will be very light, it only takes a very small amount to cause slick spots on roads, especially bridges, overpasses and other untreated surfaces," Pydynowski said.
People who will be hitting the roadways on Thursday morning should use extra caution. Surfaces that appear wet can be coated with a thin layer of ice, which can make travel extremely dangerous.
Should you hit a patch of ice while driving, take your foot off the accelerator, keep the steering wheel straight and avoid hitting the brakes.
Farther south where the air will be too mild for any snow or ice, sporadic rain will fall from parts of the mid-Atlantic to the southern New England coast.
This includes New York City, where the 90th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place amidst cloudy, cool and damp conditions.
Beyond Thanksgiving, another weak storm is expected to reach the Northeast on Friday into Saturday.
Shoppers will have to dodge light, sporadic rain showers in and out of stores during Black Friday afternoon. However, parts of the interior Northeast could catch a bit of snow during Friday evening.
