Ohio man charged with Twitter death threat against Trump

A 24-year-old man from Ohio could face five years in prison if he is found guilty of issuing a death threat towards President-elect Donald Trump.

NBC News is reporting that Zachary Benson, who appeared in court on Thursday, is being accused of posting a message on Twitter that read, "My life goal is to assassinate Trump. Don't care if I serve infinite sentences. That man deserves to [cease] existing."

He allegedly issued the tweet early on November 9 along with others expressing his anger at the election outcome including one that reportedly read, "Diplomacy. F*****g fools. I hate you all. I want to bomb every one of your voting booths and your general areas."

Though Benson is said to have deleted the tweets hours later, the Secret Service was already made aware of them and arrested him on November 10.

He reportedly told agents that he was responsible for the tweets but "never had any intentions behind any of the posts."

After his court hearing, Benson was released on bond; his case is expected to be heard by a federal grand jury at an as-yet undetermined time, reports Ars Technica.
