Planned Parenthood issues explicit statement in wake of 2016 presidential election

Together Donald Trump and Mike Pence create what many have referred to as the most anti-abortion White House ticket in recent memory.

In light of the pair's unprecedented Wednesday morning win, some women have started to panic about the future of their healthcare options in the United States, particularly concerning access to safe abortion.

Planned Parenthood took to its Facebook page Wednesday afternoon to quell the fears of women who may feel scared and unsure about the organization's future.

"Planned Parenthood has been here for 100 years, and one thing is clear," the organization began. "We will never back down and we will never stop fighting to ensure that Planned Parenthood patients have access to the care they need and for the people who come from communities that need our continued support in this new reality.

"Many of the people Planned Parenthood health centers serve may be concerned about their safety, and the safety of their families and friends," it continued. "We will support our immigrant, Muslim, Black and Latinx colleagues, partners and patients in the face of threats made over the last several months."

The post, which has racked up over 23,000 likes and 3,500 shares, received multiple comments from pro-choice people around the country.

"We will never stop fighting, we will never stop supporting you," one man said. "We must mobilize our daughters, anyone under 50 does not remember our country without legal accessible abortion."

"You helped me get a referral to screen for cancer and were there for me when I had no money," one woman shared. "I donate monthly."

Ultimately, the organization sought to make one important point heard loud and clear: "Health care should not be political."

"Every morning, Planned Parenthood health center staff across the country wake up and open their doors, as they have this morning, to care for anyone who needs them, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, income, or country of origin," it wrote. "They will do so today, they will do so tomorrow, they will do so every day as they have for 100 years."
