Eerie witchcraft symbols discovered across one country

Updated

People in England are reviving an old trend -- hunting for signs of witches. It's not just for Halloween.

Though no one is searching for the witches themselves, there is a serious search underway for the ancient carvings that used to keep them away, according to Mashable.

A government body in Historic England needs help locating ritual protection symbols called "witches marks" in order to keep a record of where they are located.

These carvings are found usually in stone or wood and date back to the 16th century when belief in witches and the supernatural was commonplace.

Symbols include stars, pentangles and various letters, and you can find them all over England -- including the hometown of playwright William Shakespeare.
