The New York City Wine and Food Festival is a gathering of some of the biggest names in the culinary world -- from New York-based restaurant owners, to the Food Network and Cooking Channel stars you love, it's a must-see event.

One of the biggest faces at this year's event was celebrity chef Robert Irvine.

Irvine may be best known for his roles on "Dinner: Nightmare", "Kitchen: Nightmare" and Iron Chef, but what you may not know is how involved he is with the military forces in the United States. In 2014, Irvine founded the Robert Irvine Foundation to honor the men and women of the military, in addition to touring and meeting with military troops around the globe.

At this premiere event for NYCWFF, Haute Dogs & Champagne, Irvine made a heartfelt speech honoring the men and women who serve their country. He reiterated this point again when AOL.com spoke with him at the Grand Tasting, which finished out the week's events

"I spend about 150 days on the road with our military men and women, I just opened a restaurant in the Pentagon, and I was a service member. For me, the most fulfilling time of my day is spent with our men and women across the world -- whether it be cooking, exercising with them in the morning, whatever that is. Food is an important part in the life of the service men and women of our country."
