Lady Gaga and her dad got matching 'Joanne' tattoos

Lady Gaga has inked her heart on her sleeve, literally. The singer revealed on Monday (Oct. 24) that she and her dad recently got matching tattoos in honor of her late aunt, who also inspired the name of her just-released fifth album, Joanne. "Got Joanne tattooed on my arm in her actual signature," she wrote on Instagram in a caption to a pic of the fresh ink on the inside of her left arm. "My dad got one too. With an angel on his shoulder."

During a visit to Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show on Monday, Gaga revealed that she has an angel tattooed on her skull and discussed what a huge presence her late aunt has been on her life. "She's like this goddess that we worshipped in our family our whole lives," she said of her aunt, who died at age 19 due to complications from the autoimmune disease Lupus. "Her picture was always up, and it was framed so beautifully in the house. We talked about her all the time, every family meal... she was like a guardian angel or spirit guide."

Gaga, whose middle name is Joanne, also discussed how her aunt's death impacted her father. "I never understood why my father drank so much and why he was so angry and why he was so overprotective and why his eyes would just blister out of control when I showed a sign of independence or wanting to leave the house or be on my own," she told Stern. "And I always thought it was my fault. So this album for me was about healing the wounds of being a young woman growing up in a tough family and figuring that out."

Gaga also has a tat with the date 12/18/1974, which is the day her aunt passed away. It's also the name of her father's New York City restaurant. The date is right in the middle of her German "Rilke" tattoo.
