This pizza chain changing lives by employing ex-convicts

Scott and Ally Svenson, the husband and wife team behind Seattle Coffee Company (which was sold to a little chain you may know called Starbucks) are making waves in the food industry yet again.

MOD Pizza, which was established in 2008, is a pizza restaurant that aims not only to make a positive impact on people's taste buds, but also on their lives.

That's because Mod Pizza are keen on hiring ex-convicts.

The couple calls this concept "enlightened capitalism."

Scott Svenson explained to CNN Money

"Some will say, 'you can't give the keys to a convicted felon.' What we say is everyone makes mistakes, we're all human, and if you're really trying to do the right thing, we've got your back. We'll stand by you."

Workers are paid $10.50 an hour and are provided with benefits that include healthcare, paid time off and access to emergency funds that include grants and loans.

Many of the workers have gone on to become store managers, proving that MOD Pizza's employment model is not only successful, but one in which workers want to stay a part of for extended periods of time.

MOD Pizza is a unique pizza place in that the chain abides by the Chipotle model of ordering food.

Customers can add whatever toppings they desire on to their pizza as they move down the line.

The pizzas are guaranteed to be finished within three minutes and only cost around $8.

Technomic's rated Mod Pizza as the fastest growing restaurant chain in the U.S. in their Top 500 Chain Restaurant report.
