Hillary Clinton praises yogurt company Chobani -- But not for its tasty product

Fun fact: The U.S. is one of only three countries in the world with no paid maternity leave laws.

That's why it's up to companies to take their own initiative on policies that benefit and promote family care.

Chobani CEO and founder Hamdi Ulukaya announced on Wednesday that the company would implement a brand-new paid parental leave policy, offering 100 percent paid parental leave for six weeks for all full-time employess, both salaries and hourly -- and yes, that includes fathers, too.

The move, which covers birth, adoption or placement of a foster child, is particularly significant when you consider that 87 percent of private sector workers in the U.S. don't have access to paid parental leave policies.

"What I value most as a new mom — and a newly expecting mom — is that paid parental leave isn't just about helping new parents, it's about our children. Our ability to spend time with them in their earliest days is essential," Grace Zuncic, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy said. "We hope the majority of U.S. companies that currently don't have plans in place to support new parents will get on-board with that thinking."

Hillary Clinton, who has made paid parental leave an integral part of her 2016 campaign, praised the new initiative on Twitter after the announcement.

"Great move by Chobani. Every parent deserves access to paid family leave," she wrote.
