Historic Black school vandalized with racist graffiti

Over the weekend, a historic 19th-century schoolhouse for African-American children was vandalized.

The defamation of the building included graffiti images of the Nazi swastika as well as phrases referring to "white power".

The Ashburn Colored School building was opened in 1892. The one room schoolhouse offered African-American children in Virginia an education.

Over the past two years, students have been working to restore the aging wooden structure and convert it into a museum.

The Loudoun School for the Gifted began to raise $100,000 two years ago to open the museum. So far they have only been able to raise a quarter of the funds.

The vandalism occurred right as the building was undergoing restoration.

The school responded to the acts of vandalism as heartbroken, but have vowed to continue with the renovations.

They posted an invite "to pitch in to help remove graffiti and repair and paint the exterior of the Old School" on Facebook.

Authorities are offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of those behind the vandalism.
