New FIFA 17 trailer: Soccer fans are the best fans

Soccer fans are so good at cheering I don't know how other sports still exist. Just hearing soccer fans cheer, even on television, is a rousing experience. Different clubs have different cheers and it seems like every fan knows them, somehow, like they were born to be there and cheer for that team and beat up whoever cheers for their rival. It makes fans of every other sport look lazy and cheap, relying on really loud clips of pop music and regular canned reminders to yell Charge! or start The Wave or sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" to fill the void where Sheer Human Spirit should be.

The new trailer for FIFA 17, this year's iteration of EA Sports' popular video game ode to soccer, focuses on this and this alone, not really showing off a single thing about how fun the game is to play or all the cool widgets and graphics that will make this FIFA better than all the other FIFAs past. Instead, it's just a slow, grandiose walk from the locker room to the pitch, cutting back and forth between live-action and in-game footage, with all that wonderful cheering that had better sound that loud and thunderous in the actual game.

FIFA 17 doesn't come out until next week, but prior glimpses at the game makes it look like great gateway drug into the series for newcomers, and it might be worth a shot if you've never given soccer video games a shot.
