13 of the best football movies to get you in the mood for the fall season

Aside from Halloween movies, football films are most defintiely one of the best ways to get into the fall spirit.

To get you in the spirit of the all-American pigskin game, we've gathered some of our absolute favorite movies below. They made us laugh, cry, and really just want to tackle someone.

13.) Varsity Blues
A back-up quarterback is chosen to lead a Texas football team to the big W, after the star quarterback is injured. It's your classic All-American high school football movie.

12.) The Replacements
Starring Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman, during a pro football strike, the owners of a famous football team decide to hire subs for the team.

11.) Brian's Song
Talk about a tear-jerker. Based on the real life relationshipteammates Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers, Piccolo discovers Sayers is dying and we basically just cried the rest of the movie.

10.) Jerry MaGuire
Starring Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr., "Jerry MaGuire" tells the story of a recently fired sports agent who relies on the only athlete who stays with him, football superstar Rod Tidwell.

9.) Rudy
The moral of Rudy is that no matter your circumstances, you can excel at anything if you put your mind to it. Rudy was always told he was too small to play college football, but he overcame the odds are achieved his dream at Notre Dame.

8.) The Waterboy
Adam Sandler stars in the hilarious comedy about a waterboy who discovers he actually is an amazing lineman, and tackles anyone he could get his hands on.

7.) The Longest Yard
Another Adam Sandler starrer, "The Longest Yard" is about a group of inmates who challenge the prison guards to a 'friendly' game of football.

6.) Friday Night Lights
The truly American story, based on H.G. Bissinger's book, profiled the economically depressed town of Odessa, Texas and their heroic high school football team, The Permian High Panthers.

5.) Any Given Sunday
When you think of football movies, "Any Given Sunday" is usually always on the list.A professional football team must learn to deal with the ups and downs of life in the spotlight, and let's just say, it isn't easy.

4.) The Little Giants
Every '90s kids remember the ragtag gang of misfits in "The Little Giants" and probably one of the best movies of the decade.

File this movie under "heartbreaking." Cuba Gooding Jr. stars as a developmentally challenged man who was taken under the wing of the high school football coach.

2.) Remember the Titans
Based on a true-story, an African American man is appointed head coach of a high school football team and tries to breakdown the racial barriers using the great game of football.

1.) The Blind Side
Sandra Bullock won her Oscar for playing real-life woman, Leigh Anne Tuohy, and rightfully so. The Tuohy's take in young, homeless boy Michael Ohre, who goes on to excel in high school football.
