USC hires its first dog professor

By: TC Newman

Cuddling with a professor is usually frowned upon in college, but this university is encouraging it!

The University of Southern California has a new faculty member, Professor Beauregard Tirebiter.

He doesn't require students to write a thesis, do lab work, or memorize history.

In fact, Professor Beau's entire job is to take away the stress assignments like that can bring.

The 2-year old golden doodle is a facility wellness dog, whose presence at USC is to be a therapy dog for the thousands of students who use the school's student health center.

Petting a therapy dog has been shown to release seratonin, oxytocin and beta-endorphins - all the happy, feel good hormones - and decrease stress.

For students who may be homesick, or have more challenging problems that require the use of the university health center, Professor Beau can be the open door that gets the students the help they need.

Don't discount him because he's a canine! Professor Beau has office hours, business cards, Twitter account and Instagram. Sporting his adorable sweater, it's clear that his fashion sense has been influenced by the USC Trojans.

USC must love having a faculty member who isn't asking for tenure!
