Rapper Shawty Lo dies in car accident


Rapper Shawty Lo, best known for his 2008 hit "Dey Know" and member of the hip-hop group D4L who released the 2005 Hot 100 chart-topper "Laffy Taffy", died in a car crash in Atlanta on Tuesday night (Sept. 20). The Georgia native (real name Carlos Walker) was 40 years old.

According to 11 Alive, Fulton County police say the crash happened around 2:20 a.m. when a 2016 Audi caught fire at the Cascade Road exit after crashing onto a guard rail and hitting several trees. Two women were said to be in the car and were also sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A Fulton County rep was not available to confirm the details of the incident at press time.

News of Shawty Lo's death was first reported by radio personality Headkrack, who tweeted that the rapper died in a hit and run though reports say that it was a single car accident.

Shawty Lo's latest release was 2013's "Bowen Home Carlos." He was also a father to 11 children.

A tweet from the rapper's official handle from his manager Johnnie Cabell read, "My brother has passed he is no longer here but his spirit, his kind heart , and his music will live on Long live Shawty Lo King of Bankhead."

Cabbell also wrote on Instagram, " am so so so devastated that words can not describe how I feel right now. Shawty Lo was not just my artist he was my Brother He was My Friend. I have been Lo MGR for over 10yrs He was Loyal and he had my back when no one else did. I could count on him when I had no one else to turn to. We been thru so much together. If you knew Lo then you know he was genuine He was Real he would do anything he could if he had it. I Genuinely love this man like my blood brother. I Will Keep His Name Alive and and His Music !!!! Please Pray for Us The Whole D4L Family Lo Family His Mom His Kids His Children Mothers We need you all prayers and Support !!!!!!"
