Diversity under the spotlight at the 2016 Emmys

This year's 68th annual Emmy Awards hasn't had a problem nominating diverse performers. This year there are 21 people of color nominated across all categories. You'll want to look out for these notable nominees.

Viola Davis
First female African American Emmy winner for Best actress in a drama series for her role in How to get away with murder back in 2015. This year Davis was nominated for a second time.

Idris Elba
This actor has been nominated for best lead actor for the show Luther. He was nominated for the same role and series three times before and this year will be his fourth.

Rami Malek
This Egyptian actor landed his first Emmy nomination for Best actor in a drama series for Mr. Robot -- this year's most nominated TV show

Kerry Washington
Nominated this year for best actress in Television movie Confirmation. She won her First Emmy back in 2013, becoming the first African American woman to win best lead actress for drama since Cicely Tyson in 1995.

Aziz Ansari
The funnyman is the first ever South-Asian American actor to receive an Emmy nomination for best actor in comedy series for the show Master of None


Taraji P. Henson
This will be the Empire star's 3rd Emmy nomination so far, and she just might bring home the award for best actress in a drama series.

Cuba Gooding Jr,
Critics may say this actor wasn't right for the role of O.J simpson, but Gooding's Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor says otherwise. The show People v. O.J Simpson came in with 22 overall nominations


Tracee Ellis-Ross
This will be her first nomination for best actress in a comedy series for the show Blackish

Tituss Burgess
his actor recently snagged his First Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a comedy series for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
