Rachel Zoe's exclusively-designed eBay backpacks are a back-to-school must

It can be hard to wrap our brains around school starting when it still feels like the dog days of summer, but now that we're a few weeks in, we can finally deal with it, as can celebrity mom and fashion designer Rachel Zoe.

With fashion week kicking off today and sending her little ones off to school this month, you might wonder how Zoe managed to put one more thing on her plate: designing two limited edition backpacks for eBay, benefitting one of her favorite charities, Save the Children.

Chatting with Zoe about the speciality designs on the phone we wondered, how does she do it?!

She had just come home to LA after a business trip, and it was clear from the noise on the other end of the line that her kids were excited to see her.

Like any working mother, Zoe juggles her growing fashion empire with family time, but unlike many working mothers, Zoe handles it ever so coolly. Truly, she never appears to be frazzled or overwhelmed, rather, present in every moment and taking life as it comes.

But, she said, it's not always rosy: "Oh my god, it's so hard," she laughed.

"It's really hard at times, and it's hardest when I travel and have to leave them, but every day is a challenge. Every day is different, and you can't make a schedule. Just like any other working mom, you just try and get better at it."

And for Zoe, motherhood inspires her. Her first son headed off to kindergarten last week, and her youngest just started preschool, "which is why I was so excited about the backpacks," she said.

The backpacks have an Americana theme -- one is paisley and the other has a bandana print -- and came from Zoe's desire to express customer choice and having a chance to vote, a collection aptly named 'Summer of Choice.'

"I have such huge respect and admiration for eBay because they are this unbelievable giant that seems to keep growing in so many different directions. It's kind of this magical place," Zoe said.

Did we mention that all of the proceeds go to Save the Children? It's a real win-win.

In addition to designing the Americana backpacks, Zoe has been busy designing her Spring/Summer 2017 clothing line, which will debut at New York Fashion Week in several days. So what can we expect from the collection?

"Spring is always fun because there's a little bit more bohemian in it," Zoe said. "But this is a little more luxe bohemian, channeling the woman who wants to travel and see the world."

"I design for the women who I love so much in my life and who inspire me, and they're always on the go," she mused.
