When one inmate assaulted an officer, another one stepped up and did the right thing
Surveillance video at the Payne County Jail in Stillwater, Okla., captured an incident in which a detention officer who was being assaulted by an inmate was saved by another inmate.
The video shows an inmate identified as 24-year-old Tashka Robert Frank Maret throwing a punch at a detention officer before throwing him to the ground.
Another inmate, whom KOCO identified as Robert Charles Hammock, decided to put a stop to it.
Hammock bear hugged Maret and helped bring him to the ground, giving backup assistance from law enforcement enough time to arrive.
Capt. Kevin Woodward told KOCO that he was grateful that Hammock helped out, but he also cautioned against getting involved in altercations.
"We certainly wouldn't want anybody to try and be a good Samaritan and get hurt in the process," he said.
As a result of the filmed assault, Maret faces the charge of assault on a police officer.
He could be behind bars for five years if convicted.
