How this Olympic gold medalist is making a difference through cosmetics

Sweat Proof Make Up For Working Out
Sweat Proof Make Up For Working Out

As if being a two-time gold medal Olympian wasn't enough of an awesome accomplishment, soccer player Lindsay Tarpley has upped the ante.

After taking home the gold, once in the 2004 Olympics in Athens and again in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Tarpley continued to follow her dreams. That included starting a makeup line for active women, Sweat Cosmetics. She and four other fellow athletes started on this project just four years ago and now have their makeup line in Sephora on through their site.

Their tag line says just what the line is all about: "Makeup that works as hard as you do." See what Tarpley had to say about the cosmetics line below!

How did your work with Sweat cosmetics come about?

Sweat cosmetics was founded by myself and four former soccer players. Two of our founders played soccer at Denver University, and while they were there they wanted a makeup sunscreen. They joked at the time, why wasn't there something like this on the market? The idea stuck with them for a long time, and all of our paths crossed when we played professionally in Boston. That's when we decided to dive into it and make it. What's interesting about our company is that we didn't skip any steps. We started with the idea, and went step by step in order to create a product that we wanted when we were playing. And now, my life has transitioned from being a soccer player to a mom, and it's a type of product that's great for active women in general. It doesn't matter what level you're playing at. I use it daily on myself, being an active woman and living a healthy lifestyle.

What was it like diving into the beauty world, coming from athletics?

I absolutely love it. And what I think it so unique is that, what you learn being an athlete, now I'm transitioning into the business world, and a lot of the qualities I had as an athlete now I have as a businesswoman. I think it's been a very neat progression, to see how being an athlete transfers over into the real world. Again, it's been a great journey to be a part of. We have a lot of great people supporting us and surrounding us. I am so proud to be a part of it, just like I was proud to be a part of the Olympics and the national team. Now, I'm incredibly proud to be a part of this venture.

Congrats on getting your line of makeup into Sephora -- that was probably a huge moment for you all. Can you talk a little bit about that?

Yes! We work incredibly hard. This journey started four years ago, we launched last year at the Women's World Cup. We're extremely proud of the product we have right now, and we're looking forward to launching more products in the next couple weeks. We're not only providing products for the active woman, but wanting to really empower women to be who they want to be. We have 5 different shades. Giving people the options to have it fit their personality and their lifestyle is very important to us.

What do you hope consumers will take away from Sweat Cosmetics?

I think what's so unique about Sweat Cosmetics is #1 our product. We spent a lot of time and energy making sure the powder we have is exactly what we wanted. We tested tons of different powders to make sure it's what we wanted. We are our target market. So, first and foremost we wanted to make sure we were proud of our product. Second of all, like I mentioned, empowering women to be who they want to be. That's why we have different shades, and the translucent. We're not saying go out there and wear makeup, we're saying whatever you want to wear, we have for you. We want to be part of your active journey and we want to empower women and encourage active beauty.
