Audrie and Daisy trailer: Netflix doc takes on the Maryville Rape case
Three years ago, Maryville, Missouri, was the center of a depressingly familiar sexual-assault scandal, when high-school freshman Daisy Coleman claimed she had been raped by an older football player while blacked out at a party in an assault that was reportedly captured on camera.
Her allegation set off a campaign of harassment, a potential cover up, and, eventually, an internet firestorm; now, the new Netflix documentary Audrie & Daisy tells her story alongside that of Audrie Pott, a California girl who underwent a similar ordeal and killed herself weeks later.
The film, which played at Sundance earlier this year, will premiere on the streaming service and in theaters September 23.
