'Super Lice' Crawl Their Way Into 48 States

As back to school season approaches, parents should be aware of a "super lice" outbreak that is plaguing the country.

Super lice cases have been found in 48 states so far, and they have been resistant to most over the counter treatments.

The Journal of Medical Entomology reports this resistance is due to several mutations in the lice.

However, health officials have assured the public not to panic.

Though the super lice are more resilient than standard lice, they can still be treated and have not proven to be life-threatening.

They can be treated similar to regular lice. A strict regimen of combing combined with different medications should do the trick when it comes to getting rid of the pesky bugs.

In addition, taking steps to prevent re-infestations is also key in preventing another super lice outbreak.
