Completely nude statues of Donald Trump mysteriously appeared in several US cities on Thursday.

Speaking to the The Washington Post the group said they were inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen story titled "The Emperor's New Clothes."

"Like it or not, Trump is a larger-than-life figure in world culture at the moment," a spokesman from the group told the paper.

"Looking back in history, that's how those figures were memorialized and idolized in their time — with statues."

According one early post on Instagram "two guys pretending to be construction workers" placed the effigy of the Republican presidential candidate in Union Square at around 11:00 AM.

The statues aren't particularly flattering rendering of the GOP nominee, with the billionaire businessman's genitals depicted as nearly nonexistent. A plaque at the feet of the statue reads "the emperor has no balls."

The art pieces are signed by the artist "Ginger 2016" on the plaque.

The statues have already garnered a crowd, with many observers grabbing selfies with the Nude figure.
