The world's most expensive and luxurious cruises will blow your mind

When you heard that the Team USA basketball teams were staying on a cruise ship in Rio, did you immediately think of a mega ship with cheesy carpeting and a pool-side stage begging for a limbo contest?

Carmelo Anthony is not staying on a Carnival Cruise ... he and the reigning gold medalists chartered the Silversea's Silver Cloud. The luxurious cruise ship has a card room, spa, casino, beauty salon, fitness centre, cigar and cognac corner and a panorama lounge to take in the Rio harbor. 296 guests can stay onboard, and 222 crew members -- which is nearly a one-to-one ratio if it fully staffed.

You don't have to be an Olympic athlete to stay aboard ships like the Silver Cloud -- but you do have to be willing to pay. For 11 days off cruising around the Mediterranean, it is $8,050 per guest for the cheapest suite, or $24,470 per guest for the owner's suite.

The Silver Cloud is part of a 10-ship fleet, but there are plenty of other cruise lines for those who want to experience the high seas in essentially a luxury hotel.
