The mantis shrimp may be the most beautiful, talented and deadly creature in the animal kingdom.

Plus, their view of the world is way better than ours.

The mantis shrimp has 16 color-receptive cones in their eyes.

Humans have only three. The spectrum of colors we see comes from three base colors: green, blue and red.

The mantis shrimp can see a spectrum of colors derived from 16 different hues.

The closest we can get to seeing that many colors is by admiring the mantis shrimp's beauty. They come in vibrant combinations of bright orange and lush green

But don't let looks fool you!

Unlike most crustaceans, the mantis shrimp is a ruthless killer.

Its two raptorial claws give it the look of a praying mantis, hence the name. They strike at the same speed as a bullet shot out of a .22 caliber rifle

Even if they miss, the shockwave will kill its prey. The mantis uses this technique to bash its prey to pieces or spear them with their barbed tips.

Its limbs strike so fast that the water around them boils and can light up from the heat.

Scientists have studied the cell structure of its exoskeleton to design body armor for combat troops.

But you don't want one as a pet!

The mantis shrimp will kill everything else in your aquarium and even break through the glass.
