A Mexican chain restaurant is under fire after putting up a controversial billboard sign in Indiana. The sign claims the chain, Hacienda Mexican Restaurants, has "the best Mexican food this side of the wall."

Local news station WSBT posted a photo of the sign:

It references Donald Trump's plan to build a wall on the US and Mexican border should he become president.

La Casa de Amistad, a community center in South Bend, is demanding the sign be taken down. They said they had numerous requests from members for the center to speak with representatives of Hacienda.

Jeff Leslie, Executive Vice President for Hacienda, claimed that the company was trying to be funny. "We don't intend to upset anybody," he said. "But, we do use humor. When you use humor, there's going to be some groups that are particularly sensitive to certain things."

La Casa de Amistad was not satisfied with that explanation. Sam Centellas, Executive Director, said, "There's a difference between funny and being offensive."

Centellas said he believes Hacienda can make a joke without offending others.

Despite the outrage, the sign remains as of now. Leslie said the chain is merely staying relevant, hence why they referenced Trump's plan.

He insisted the sign is more so about how good the food is, saying, "So the board is really about passion for our food. It's about our core guests who really know and believe that our food is really terrific, and that's what we're communicating with this board."
