Photos of Cam Newton giving food to homeless man surface on Instagram

The MMQB Spotlight: Cam Newton

Cam Newton made headlines last season for his debated dabbing and his disappointing press conference following a Super Bowl loss.

But what often went unnoticed was the generosity the quarterback frequently displayed.

Newton and the Carolina Panthers were in Baltimore for the preseason opener against the Ravens last week when the quarterback stopped after dinner to give a homeless man a full meal. Charlotte natives Candace Gregory and her husband were out for a walk after dinner when they witnessed the unexpected act of kindness.

"People talk about him dabbing and all the stuff that in my mind ultimately should be irrelevant, because that doesn't get to the heart of who he is," Gregory told ESPN.

"I once saw him give something to a disabled child at a practice and people were like, 'Oh, it's a photo opportunity.' But this was when nobody was looking. That's why we shared it, because character is what you do when nobody is looking."

Gregory said that the quarterback discreetly handed him the food and kept moving, with no obvious intention to make a scene out of his sympathetic gesture.

She took photos and sent them to a friend who posted one to Instagram.
