Russia is planning to hold an unusual military exercise.

According to the Moscow Times, the Navy will attempt to cover the entire northern city of Severomorsk with fake fog this week in an effort to hide the large military base there.

The three-day operation is expected to take place from August 10 with the help of stationary and mobile smoke machines.

According to ABC News, the city's nearly 50,000 residents have been notified of the operation with a request that they "remain calm."

They have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed; they have also been warned about a "specific smell."

Nevertheless, officials have assured them that the smoke is harmless and will dissipate quickly.

The Russian Navy has reportedly said that this is the first time an exercise of this kind has been conducted.
