Man Sentenced for Beating Girlfriend's 2-Year-Old Daughter

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DCW-TV) -- A Silver Spring man was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison after admitting he beat the daughter of his girlfriend.

Julio Mancco More, 27, pled guilty to child abuse and assault, both first degree charges because of the severity of the injuries to a then 2-year-old girl he picked up from day care.

More initially told his girlfriend and Montgomery County Police that he was attacked by strangers who blocked Dewey Road near his home.

After failing a lie detector test, More admitted to striking the child for unknown reasons several times including with a motorcycle helmet in his possession.

The child suffered brain injuries, several fractures of her skull and some broken bones that doctors believe only occurred because the child was restrained in a car seat.

"More really deserves this time because quite frankly taking a helmet in a child's skull and hitting this little girl with his hands and fist is inexcusable," said Ramon Korionoff, Public Affairs Director for the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors asked the judge for a 20-year sentence.

Korionoff said if More does not comply with his terms of release there is an option of adding those additional 5 years to on to time served for another offense.
