Gregg Allman cancels tour dates over 'serious health issues'
On Friday (Aug. 5), venerable Allman Brother/Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Gregg Allman canceled all his tour dates through mid-October as he battles what a press release calls "serious health issues."
The 68-year old is currently being treated by the Mayo Clinic. No further details were given on his condition.
The string of axed dates begins with his Aug. 12 show at Scranton, Pennsylvania's Peach Music Festival and concludes with an Oct. 16 performance in Clearwater, Florida. He's promised to return October 29 for his own Laid Back Festival in Atlanta, with all shows after that on as scheduled.

Unfortunately, Allman has publicly struggled with his health in recent years. His 2012 book My Cross to Bear discusses his battle with Hepatitis C, which he contracted through a tattoo needle decades earlier. That same year, he was forced to miss parts of a 10-night residency at New York's Beacon Theatre over bulging discs in his back. In 2011, he was forced to cancel tour dates over an upper respiratory condition, for which he eventually required lung surgery. In 2010, he underwent liver transplant surgery. He gave up alcohol in 1995 after a long period of inebriation during his Rock Hall induction led him to enter a rehab program.

"I want to thank my fans and friends for supporting me while I rest up and focus on getting better and back on the road as soon as I can," Allman said in the press release. "I've been working hard with my band, my pride and joy, to play our music for everyone. We'll see y'all in October."
His last solo album was 2011's Low Country Blues, though he hinted earlier this year he is working on new music with Don Was, which he hopes to share in early 2017.
