Anti-aging and skin whitening creams may contain mercury

Unless you shop all natural and all organic, you can expect to find some ingredients you've never heard of in your creams.

However, do you think it's safe that one of them may be mercury?

The FDA says the chemical is found in some skin care products, specifically those marked as "anti-aging" or "skin-lightening."

Skin-care developers have found it can be used to remove age spots, freckles, acne and wrinkles.

Though these may be the results you want, mercury packs serious health risks! It can negatively impact the nervous, digestive and immune systems, as well as the lungs and kidneys.

Always be careful to read labels of anything you're putting on your skin, and research any funky sounding ingredients!

Mercury can be labeled in many ways. It goes by "mercurous chloride," "calomel," and "mercuric," just to name a few.

Before disposing these products, make sure to seal them in a leak-proof bag and check with local waste management for instructions.

Then, maybe experiment with mixing your own face lotions!
