Today, Melissa Etheridge premieres her new single "Hold On, I'm Coming" -- a cover of the Sam & Dave classic -- from her upcoming album MEmphis Rock and Soul. Dropping Oct. 7, the release will feature covers of songs from the legendary (now defunct) Stax Records, as well as originals rooted in that soul sound.

Of the Sam & Dave cover premiering on Billboard today, Etheridge says, "'Hold on, I'm Coming' is probably the first of these Stax songs I remember hearing when I was a kid. That intro and chorus - 'Hold on! I'm comin'!' If that doesn't make your heart and soul soar, as it did when I was a child, I don't know what will."

Listen to "Hold On, I'm Coming" and check out the album's track list below. MEmphis Rock and Soul was tracked at another seminal Memphis spot, Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios, where Al Green, Solomon Burke, Ann Peebles and more recorded classics. Willie's son Boo Mitchell produced the album, and the Hodges Brothers back Melissa on the record. She also used Al Green's legendary #9 mic to record her vocals.

MEmphis Rock and Soul track list:

1. Memphis Train

2. Respect Yourself (People Stand Up)

3. Who's Making Love

4. Hold On, I'm Coming

5. I've Been Loving You Too Long (To Stop Now)

6. Any Other Way

7. I'm A Lover
