Blind Pit Bull Finds Forever Home, Gets Eyesight Back

By Kelly Wrule, WTKR:

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – From barely alive and blind, to new eyesight, Marco had quite a year.

Georgia Obenaus, CEO of Go Rescue Pet Adoption Center in Virginia Beach, has made it her mission to find Marco a permanent home since she took him in back in 2013.

He had almost no hair, skin infections, a bone where his tail was supposed to be, and was blind.

With the help of the community and supporters Shana and Jamie Haines, they raised the last of the $3,000 they needed to pay for a surgery to restore his eyesight in September of 2015. Despite a successful surgery two months later, Obenaus never found him the perfect family.

Until last week, when she met Ashley and Sarah McGinley.

"Now we just realize it was waiting for the exact right people to step up," says Jamie.

The McGinley's donated to Marco's eyesight fund and followed his surgery, when they thought for sure he got adopted.

The McGinley's have never been so happy to be so wrong.

"We're really looking forward to it and we want to be his forever home," says Ashley.

Obenaus says the situation could not have come more "full circle."

"Since he's been with us this has been the best life that he has ever known," she says. "But, I know there's something better out there for him and we found it."

For Obenaus, it is the bittersweet ending for journey that she started with very little hope.

However, for Marco and his new family, it's just the beginning of their story.

"I'm really looking forward to years and years and years," says Ashley.
