Homeless teen bikes 6 hours to get to college, sleeps in tent
People are full of excuses for why they can't do this, that and the other thing, but not this young man.
19-year-old Fred Barley was so ready for college he moved into a tent to search for a job.
Barley is a student at Gordon State College and is set to begin his second semester in the fall.
He pedaled his bike six hours and set himself up in a tent because he is homeless and looking for a job to support himself before school starts.
Authorities in Barnesville, Georgia were called when the tent was set up near campus.
They asked the tent dweller to come out with his hands up, but the standoff didn't last long.
Fortunately, the cops set Barley up at a hotel for a couple of nights and the community has gathered to support him as well.
The GoFundMe page, 'Success for Fred,' has raised more than $67,000 dollars, and Barley is moving into a campus apartment on July 18th.
Barley has already proven he won't let anything stand in his way, and it's great to see his community support that!
