"There are two types of people in the world: the people who radiate confidence and naturally excel at life and the people who hope all those people die in a big explosion," explains Hailee Steinfeld in the red band trailer for The Edge of Seventeen. "It was clear which side of the equation I was on."

Written and directed by Kelly Fremon, STX's coming-of-age comedy stars the actress as "an especially badly-dressed student," as described by her teacher Woody Harrelson.

She's further troubled when her best friend (Haley Lu Richardson) starts hooking up with her "golden boy" brother (Blake Jenner). Still, she's learning to put herself out there more, thanks to a graphic text sent to her classroom crush.

Kyra Sedgwick and Alexander Calvert are also featured in the cast of the film, produced by James L. Brooks. It is being compared to a modern John Hughes film.

The Edge of Seventeen will be released later this year. Watch the trailer below.
