Jennifer Aniston took the media to task on Tuesday in a strongly-worded blog post titled "For The Record," which was published on The Huffington Post.

"For the record, I am not pregnant," Aniston began the lengthy essay, which took the media to task for "absurd and disturbing" ways in which she says women are objectified in the news.

"The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing," she wrote. "The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty."

Aniston noted the ways in which images and scrutiny of women in the media can have a negative effect on little girls everywhere, whether they're aware of that influence or not.

This kind of direct response to gossip and rumors is incredibly uncharacteristic of Aniston, who has notoriously been private and mum-lipped when it came to her personal affairs outside of her acting career. And she noted that in her blog post.

"Addressing gossip is something I have never done," she explained. "I don't like to give energy to the business of lies, but I wanted to participate in a larger conversation that has already begun and needs to continue."

Noting the decades of "stalking and objectification" she's experienced, the 47-year-old actress noted that "this past month in particular has illuminated for me how much we define a woman's value based on her marital and maternal status."

Rumors started swirling that Aniston was pregnant after photos leaked of the star on vacation with her husband looking allegedly fuller figured. The actress called out "the sheer amount of resources being spent right now by press trying to simply uncover whether or not I am pregnant" and how that "points to the perpetuation of this notion that women are somehow incomplete, unsuccessful, or unhappy if they're not married with children."

Just because she's not married now, though, doesn't mean that Aniston is closed to the idea of someday having children of her own. It's just that she wants to do it on her own terms.

"Yes, I may become a mother some day," she said. "And since I'm laying it all out there, if I ever do, I will be the first to let you know."

At the end of her heated and well-written post, Aniston called for people to be more aware of these practices and "toxic messages" that alter the ways in which we view and treat women.
