Summer Spritz fit for the Italian in you
If you've been to Italy, you've probably seen people out on the piazza enjoying a cocktail before dinner. Unlike in the U.S., where people are usually seen sipping martinis or beers, the Italian pre-dinner drink of choice is the apertivo. One of the most popular is the Aperol spritz, made with prosecco, Aperol, a splash of club soda, and a slice of orange. The Aperol spritz is the perfect summer cocktail – light and refreshing.
While I've included a recipe below, you can kind of eyeball it. I substituted Luc Belaire champagne brut for prosecco and skipped the club soda, and it was just as delicious as following the recipe to a tee.
Aperol Spritz Recipe:
- 3 parts Prosecco or dry champagne
- 2 parts Aperol
- 1 part soda water (optional – I prefer mine heavier on the alcohol)
- Slice of orange
