In recent years, pranksters have turned tennis balls into homemade firecrackers.
In 2000, a man in Portland found one while walking his dog. He tossed it a few times for the dog to catch and it ended up exploding in the pet's mouth.
The dog suffered severe injuries and had to be euthanized.
Now, experts are warning pet owners across the country to be on the lookout for these types of firecrackers.
