Elvis Presley guitarist Scotty Moore dies at 84

Scotty Moore, the Hall of Fame guitarist whose work can be heard on some of Elvis Presley'scareer-defining songs, died Tuesday at the age of 84.

Moore performed on Presley's first hit, "That's All Right" ("Mama"), and on such singles as "Heartbreak Hotel," "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock".

He died in Nashville after several months of poor health, the Memphis Commercial-Appeal reported.

The pioneering rock guitarist will be remembered as a longtime sideman to The King. He teamed with bass player Bill Black and drummer D.J. Fontana on the Blue Moon Boys, a band which backed Presley in his early, Sun Records career. Moore went on to work beside Presley after the singer switched to RCA in 1956.

"We lost one of the finest people I have ever met today," Matt Ross-Sprang, an engineer at the Sun Studio in Memphis said on Instagram. "The guitarist that changed the world ... especially mine; I hope you don't mind if I keep stealing your licks."

Moore was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, was a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and was entered into the Memphis Music hall of Fame last November.

Services for Moore will be held Thursday in his hometown of Humboldt, Tennessee.
