General Mills announces recall of popular granola bars

General Mills has announced a national recall of four flavors of Nature Valley granola bars.

They contain sunflower seeds that are potentially contaminated with listeria, according to a press release.

No illnesses have been reported, but General Mills has asked consumers to throw away the affected products.

The following variations of granola bars are included in the recall:

  • Nature Valley Protein Chewy Bar -Honey, Peanut & Almond with Pumpkin Seeds – 5 count

  • Nature Valley Protein Chewy Bar-Peanut, Almond & Dark Chocolate – 5 count
    Package UPC: 000-16000-45724

  • Nature Valley Simple Nut Bar – Roasted Peanut & Honey – 4 count
    Package UPC: 000-16000-46475

  • Nature Valley Simple Nut Bar – Roasted Peanut & Honey – 16 count
    Package UPC: 000-16000-41308

  • Nature Valley Simple Nut Bar – Almond, Cashew & Sea Salt – 4 count
    Package UPC: 000-16000-46474

  • Nature Valley Simple Nut Bar-Almond, Cashew & Sea Salt – 25 count
    Package UPC: 000-16000-41301

Out of the nearly 40 products Nature Valley offers, only these four are affected.

This isn't the first case of potentially contaminated sunflower seeds in the past few months -- Planters, Sunrich Naturals, Papa John's Salads and Produce and Quaker Oats also recalled products tied to the now-recalled seeds.
