'Curb Your Enthusiasm' EP on Larry David's season 9 return: 'Business as usual'
Details about the long-awaited, just-announced ninth season of Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasmare starting to trickle in — and it's sounding pret-ty, pret-ty good. Executive producers David Mandel and Jeff Schaffer tell THR that all the original castmembers will be back — "It should be business as usual," says Schaffer — for what likely will be a 10-episode run on HBO.
Mandel notes that it was David, 68, who approached the producers about finally getting around to season nine — the eighth aired in 2011 — but laughs off suggestions that it was David's recent success impersonating Bernie Sanders on SNL that convinced the Seinfeld co-creator it was time to return to TV. According to Mandel, David simply needed time to gather fresh material: "The fact that he'd been doing SNL and the Broadway show [Fish in the Dark] — that just creates new situations where he gets ideas."
