When Stacey Wehrman Feeley caught her 3-year-old daughter standing on the toilet bowl in the bathroom of her Michigan home, she assumed she was just being "mischievous" and went to take a cute photo to share with her husband.

It was only after her daughter explained what she was actually doing that Feeley realized the gravity of the situation.

"She was practicing for a lockdown drill at her preschool and what you should do if you are stuck in a bathroom," Feeley wrote on Facebook. "At that moment all innocense [sic] of what I thought my three-year-old possessed was gone."

"Politicians - take a look. This is your child, your children, your grandchildren, your great grand children and future generations to come," Feeley wrote in her now viral post, which has already been shared over 13,000 times.

"They will live their lives and grow up in this world based on your decisions. They are barely 3 and they will hide in bathroom stalls standing on top of toilet seats."

Feeley then went on to call for stricter gun control regulations, admitting she knows it won't be a "100% crime control" solution, but that it would be a big step in the right direction.

"Why on earth are there not universal background checks?" she asked. "Where is a universal registration database? Why are high capacity magazines ever permitted to be sold to anyone other than direct to the military? Is that really necessary to protect yourself or hunt for that matter?"

Many who have commented on her post seem to agree.

"133 mass shootings in America in the last year. Other nations-under 5," wrote Stacy Fleischer-Krafft. "We need to do better NOW."

Ultimately, Feeley wrote she hopes her emotional plea will serve as a call to action for concerned parents and lawmakers across the nation.

"Banding together, signing petitions, rallying to get your voice heard is good, but is it actually doing anything or just making us feel better about the current situation?" she wrote. "We need action."
