During a Facebook Live event on Monday Kelly Clarkson teased a big announcement coming on Friday, but instead of a press release she just sang a cover of Otis Redding's "These Arms of Mine" as a hint of what's coming. In a supremely chill set-up in her living room, Clarkson spoke to the camera while clutching her coffee and praying that the noise didn't wake her baby daughter up. (Too late, River Rose was already crying when the video started.)
Taking advantage of the babysitting help, a nervous Clarkson ("I haven't done anything in a while"), opened with a joke about how she could be friends with Chewbacca Lady and explained that she wanted to find a way to announce things in her own fashion. "I'm excited to sing again because months ago I sounded like crap," she said. "This is the coolest announcement for me as an artist and I don't want ot ruin it."
Joined by pianist Jason Halbert, Clarkson said she was continuing her tradition of taking fan requests during her shows by posting the first of four covers slated for this week that fans have asked for in the past.
"I picked these four songs because these four artists have something in common... that's my hint for today," she said. And then, after taking time off from singing due to an order of vocal rest, Clarkson joined Halbert at the piano and just slayed the 1964 Redding classic, giving it some serious gospel flavor.
