Brains over beauty! Men, here's why smart women will help you live longer
"The thing a boy is never told he needs to do, if he wants to live a longer life, but what he should do, is marry an intelligent woman. There is no better buffer than intelligence." Wise words from University of Aberdeen Professor Lawrence Whalley during a talk called Dementia: How Can We Protect Ourselves.
Researchers say intelligent women can continually challenge a man's brain, keeping it active long into the elderly years.
Aberdeen's study looked at identical twins and found that those who tied the knot with an intellectual lady were better protected against Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
Some of those men showed signs of dementia in brain scans, yet didn't suffer any symptoms from the disease, IHeartIntelligence reports.
A separate study published in the journal JAMA Neurology found that a lifetime of intellectual stimulation can help lower your risk of dementia.
Alzheimer's disease affects more than five million Americans and there is no cure.
If you haven't yet found your brainy bride, you can stave off the devastating disease with healthy eating, exercise, reading, furthering your education, learning a new skill, and taking up crossword puzzles.
