Shout! Factory and Legacy Classics are teaming up on three new animated films adapted from several bestselling titles in "The Boxcar Children" book series.

The companies announced Thursday that they were working with publisher Albert Whitman & Company to launch the first movie timed to the 75th anniversary of "Boxcar Children" festivities.

Gertrude Chandler Warner's "Boxcar Children" has sold more than 70 million books worldwide. There are 150 books in the series, and more than 1 million schoolchildren read the books in schools across North America every year.

The "Boxcar Children" pics are the first titles announced as part of Shout and Legacy's long-term production partnership and film distribution deal for a slate of new family films based on several bestselling classic and contemporary children's books.

Shout! Factory will co-produce these films with Legacy Classics, and handle the sales and distribution for each movie across all platforms in North America, including theatrical, digital, broadcast, inflight and home entertainment.

The initial plan is for at least four feature-length movies over the next two years.

The deal was negotiated by Shout's David McIntosh and Aaron Meyerson of Qualia Legacy Advisors for Legacy Classics.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Legacy Classics has animation and visual effects studios in Seoul, Jakarta and Bali.
