Dolly Parton has sung about many things: steadfast love ("I Will Always Love You"), humble beginnings ("Coat of Many Colors) and the drudge of the working life ("9 to 5"). In 2017, she will warble to get a salty sea dog to accompany her on tour.

Parton is lending her prized voice to the second season of "Lily's Dritftwood Bay," the animated kids' TV series that airs on NBCUniversal's Sprout in the U.S. and Viacom's Nick Jr. in the United Kingdom. She will play a singing chicken named Noleen. The second season starts June 6 on Nick Jr, and June 27th on Sprout. The new season will also feature an appearance by actor and comedian Rob Brydon as a seafaring silver fox.

Parton's episode is likely to appear in 2017 in the U.S.

"I've never played a chicken before but I have been known to lay a few eggs!" said Parton in a prepared statement. Convincing the singer to take part took a year, according to Colin Williams, the show's creator.

The series is produced by Sixteen South and co-produced with KiKA – Der Kinderkanal of ARD & ZDF/Germany.
