Justin Bieber slams 'hollow' awards shows

Don't bother trying to give Justin Bieber an award. Unless it's for Most Ungrateful Pop Star.

The "Purpose" singer took to Instagram on Monday to rip into awards ceremonies, deeming them "hollow" and full of people with "fake smiles."

"I don't know about these award shows," Bieber, 22, began his jeremiad.

While noting that he has "[n]othing but love" for awards ceremony organizers, the "Baby" singer doubted the sincerity of the attendees.

"I try to think of it as a celebration but can't help feeling like people are rating and grading my performance," Bieber wrote. "A lot of people in the audience there to be seem worried about how much camera time they will get or who they can network with."

Bieber continued, "When I'm doing a regular show I feel they are there for the right reasons and to strictly have a good time! But these award shows seem so hollow. I get the premise is to award people for their accomplishments, but is it really? Because when I look in the audience I see a bunch of fake smiles so that when the camera hits them they look happy."

The singer finished up by saying that awards ceremonies lack the authenticity that he requires to feel recognized for his accomplishments.

"I am privileged and honored to be recognized by my peers in but in these settings I can't feel the recognition," Bieber concluded. "There's an authenticity missing that I crave!"

Bieber, 22, appears to have grown weary of fame's trappings in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the singer declared that he would no longer pose for photos with fans, proclaiming, "I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity." Earlier in the year he canceled meet-and-greets on his Purpose tour, saying they made him feel "drained and unhappy."
