This 15-year-old has catapulted into fame on an app you've never heard of

Updated

musical.ly may be a relative newcomer to the social media space, but that doesn't mean that you should underestimate its power. The app allows creators to make videos related to music, letting them play around with songs, content, and more with the press of a button. It's already gained a huge following and has led to some people to find fame on the platform. Ariel Martin, better known as Baby Ariel, can attest to the viral nature of the app.

Her one year anniversary on musical.ly just happened, and since her channel's inception, Baby Ariel has been able to capture the attention of over 8 million users. Her incredible lip syncs to some of today's biggest hits have turned her into a viral star almost overnight. And since then, Ariel has been able to showcase her talents on her other social media channels, including her equally viral YouTube clips that range from trending challenges to cooking videos.

In one year, Baby Ariel has put herself on the map, establishing her presence in the social media world. It's an impressive feat for anyone to accomplish -- let alone a fifteen year old. But if anyone has the tenacity and the passion for it, it's Ariel.

We recently spoke with the rising social media start to talk about her one year anniversary on Musical.ly, what it's like creating videos for the platform, and more!

And for even more Baby Ariel news, head over to AOL.com at 12 p.m. ET for more exclusive features, including her relationship with fans.

Why you first decided to join musical.ly?
I actually found Musical.ly through Instagram. When I first started it, I would post about a few videos every single day and then one day my video got featured on their homepage, which means anyone who has the app sees my video. And once my videos were featured there more reguarly, I started to really gain a following on Music.ly and my other social media platforms. From there, I realized I love to make videos that make people happy, so I decided to do it on a regular basis.

Take me behind the scenes of your musical.ly videos. How do you conceptualize them?
The cool thing about Musical.ly Is that there's such a wide array of videos you can make. There's comedy and lip sync. Based on how I'm feeling and the mood I'm in, I can choose to do a song that I want to dance to that day. Or I'll make a comedy video since and create a skit. It's really dependent on how I feel in that moment.

What was running through your mind the first time your musical.ly went viral?
That was crazy because I didn't know what was going on. I was new to the whole social media world so when I started getting likes and followers out of nowhere, I was just happy. Once it continued I realized that it was something that I can do it full time.

Why you think musical.ly is important for creators?
I think it's really important because it's the only app where you can do whatever you want. You can sing, dance, do comedy skits, so there's so much you can do in a short amount of time. It's really a platform where you can just showcase what you love to do and I hope people start using it because it's a great way to express yourself.

Do you have any big plans for your one year anniversary?
I have been thinking about that a lot! I'm going on tour so i'm really excited about it. So I'm trying to plan something big there, but we'll see what happens.
