Police in Detroit are investigating the death of a 5-year-old girl who found a gun in her grandmother's home and fatal shot herself.

According to police, the revolver was tucked underneath the grandmother's pillow when the little girl found it. The loaded gun went off while in her hands, hitting her in the neck and killing her.

The child was identified by family members as 5-year-old Mariah Davis. She was taken to an area hospital after her grandfather called 911, but did not survive, WWJ reports.

Two other children under the age of three were with the girl upstairs at the time of the accident. The grandmother was in another room preparing food.

No arrests have been made so far, notes WXYZ, but Detroit police will continue the investigation.
